Turkey drives aren’t new. But the best part of Thanksgiving is the sides.
Last year, when the government shutdown caused a SNAP shortage, one of our members decided she couldn’t watch families scramble. She set out to put a full holiday meal in the hands of as many neighbors as possible, as fast as possible.
Our local mortgage and real estate community showed up, and together we fed more than 50 families in a short window of time. When the baskets went out, several recipients asked, “What church are you with?” They were stunned to learn it came from the people who help their neighbors buy and sell homes.
The need hasn’t gone away. Kentucky’s food insecurity rate has been climbing, and the holidays are when a full table is hardest to afford. This year, the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Bluegrass is proud to take this on as an association.
This year our goal is to double it:
100 families.
